Julia Inez West passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday evening at her residence in the company of her daughter Nora. She was born August 2, 1939, in Jackson Mississippi, a daughter to the late Henry Thomas and Nora Mae (Cox) Shivers and was preceded in death by her siblings Ryan Shivers and Barbara Whitt.
She was a member of the PBX club before it was disbanded and loved all sports, especially baseball. The Astros were her favorite team and she continued to follow her favorite player, Hunter Pence even after he was traded. It was often a topic of conversation. She also loved Elvis and would tell us about the time she saw him perform in person before he "made it big", and she loved Blake Shelton and would comment on what a fine lookin' man he was. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She adored listening to stories about their lives and receiving pictures. Her favorite nephew was Trent... and Russell... and Walter. Which is the true favorite, we may never know.
Julia is survived by her two children, Nora Manchack and Marlin West; five grandchildren, Cassandra Lubojacky, Michael Manchack, Aaron Manchack, Blake West, and Brooke West; five great grandchildren, Kenneth, Austin, Marcus, Elizabeth, and Abigail; and her best friend of 47 years, Cathy McNurlen.
It's hard to find the words to describe "Nez". She was loved by so many family and friends.
A memorial service for Julia will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A burial will occur at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
