Things I can remember about my sister Judy:

   My first memory of my sister was us just being two normal little girls, 
playing with our dolls.  We only had one doll each, all of our growing up 
years.  I thought her doll was prettier than mine.  They had porceline faces 
and limbs, with a cloth body, and only one outfit.  We had one little doll 
buggy, one high chair.  We also had a little porceline tea set.  We had very 
few toys.  One thing we liked to do is play dress up with Mom's clothes and 
shoes.

  In winter, it was cozy sleeping with my sister "spooned" together to keep 
warm and waking in the morning with snow on our quilt that had blown in with 
the icy wind. 

   We loved Scott when he came along.  We would dress him up like a doll, and 
then bring him down stairs, and make Dad and Mom laugh.

   I remember one time Grandma Higbee (Goldie) gave Judy and me a funny little 
trinket from the dime store.  We were so tickled about those that we laid on 
our bed and just giggled and giggled about them.  We had the best time.

  There was an old shed on the property and we would make mud pies and of 
course once in a while we had to taste them- ugh! It sure didn't taste good 
but kids will be kids and we knew what dirt tasted like - or mud, rather.

  I wasn't as active and athletic as Judy and I was called "fraidy cat" by the 
other kids.  One time I looked and Judy was climbing a leaning treee like a 
monkey and I don't remember how, but up she got!  I was always too afraid to 
try anything like that.

  Mom and Dad would take us to Rocky Ford and Judy learned how to swim, but I 
was too afraid to get in the water.

  As we grew up at Neal, we really didn't do so much together as she had her 
friends and I had my friend, Elsie Faye.

  Then in 1951 we moved to Reece, out in the country, and we had 1 1/2 acres 
there.  There was a barn and a 3 bedroom house, if you could call it that.  It 
was very run-down, but Mom and Dad did their best to make it liveable.  There 
was not much to do.  We had a small TV with a lot of "snow" on it.  It go 
better later on, though we had no phone.  We really led a dull life.  THEN in 
1953 or 1954, my sister met this incredibly handsome guy at school by the name 
of Vaughn Whiteman which proved to be THE most exciting thing that ever 
happened to any of us!!  I can still remember the night that he gave Judy a 
ring and Mom and Dad got Scott and me to come out of our bedrooms and come to 
the living room to see it and hear what was being said.  Later a June wedding 
was planned at the Baptist Church in Eureka for June 10th, 1956 just after 
Judy graduated from high school.  By today's standards, it was a very plain 
but sweet wedding and I served as bride's maid.  Mom did the best she could.  
I was very shy throughout all but was proud of Judy and Roy (or Vaughn, as we 
knew him then.  I always liked the name Vaughn, as I thought it a very 
masculine name.

      Judy was always very sweet to me as I finished school at Piedmont, and I 
think she worried about me.  As I have aged I have realized how strict our 
mother was on us, both physically and mentally and we more or less just grew 
up without much supervision.  But they did take us to Sunday School and church 
and we learned about God and Jesus, for which I am thankful.  I know they did 
the best for us they knew how and we all three grew up to be God fearing 
citizens.

     There are, of course many other things that happened and other memories, 
but I can't list them all here.  I am thankful that death can't take away our 
memories.

     I know that she was a better sister to me than I was to her and her 
memory is so dear to my heart.

Oh, Roy---the memories, the memories.  We are so blessed to have had our friendship for over 50 years,.  We have spent the evening remembering so many, many things done together.  So many coffees, so many long, late night talks, so much inter-mingling of our two families.  We will miss our beautiful Judy so much---but only temporarily until we meet with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  What a day that will be!  You know our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you this very moment.  What a gift your friendship has been bound together through the Lord.
