Judith Ann (Wood) Camp, 81, joined her beloved husband Grady in Heaven on September 3, 2018, upon passing away peacefully at home. She was born June 10, 1937, in Houston, Texas, to Dona and Barbara “Aunt Sug” (Johnson) Wood, and was the middle sister to Norma, Donnie, and Donna Lynn Wood.
Judy met the love of her life when her mother rented their garage apartment to a handsome tenant with piercing blue eyes and two small boys. She became Mrs. Grady Camp when they married on June 30, 1963. In the mid-1960s, they moved to a piece of land near Spring Creek, where Judy would live for the next fifty years. Although she was a lifelong resident of the greater Houston area, Judy loved traveling (especially taking cruises) and was always willing to drop everything to begin a new adventure. Her favorite destinations over the years were Branson, Missouri, Las Vegas (where she could be found playing slot machines) and the family property in Centerville.
Judy devoted her life to three things: her faith, her husband, and her family. She was a devout Christian, always active in church, and had an unwavering loyalty to her family. Known as “Granny” to her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren, she spoiled them all. Even the family pets knew the best spot for receiving treats was next to Granny. She also played piano and enjoyed sewing crafts.
Survivors include sons Grady Allan (Mitzy) Camp, Stephen Smith “Jody” (Gail) Gibson, Edward DeWayne (Lori) Camp, and Justin Adair (Roxanne) Camp; grandchildren Rachael Elizabeth Camp, Jeffrey Kadem Camp, Amanda Michelle Camp (Nicholas) Kostin, Timothy Stephen (Cindy) Gibson, Christopher Charles Gibson, and Daniel Ryan (Megan) Gibson; eleven great-grandchildren (and a twelfth on the way); several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Scott and Denise Eichhorn. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and son Melvin Bruce Camp.
Visitation for family and friends will begin Sunday, September 9th from 5pm to 8pm with the funeral service beginning at 10am on Monday, September 10th in Brookside Funeral Home Family Chapel. Interment to follow immediately after the funeral service in Brookside Memorial Park.
