She was born to the late Leo Charles Hollien and Gladys Wendorf Howell in Houston, TX. She was an active member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Houston, TX. Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed volunteering and being active with Theatre Southwest, Garden Club, working at the election polls, Quail Valley Quails, and Clown Alley.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Lee Pirtle, Jr. and James Joseph Dougherty.
She is survived by her daughter; Lynn Pirtle Lazarz, granddaughters; Nicole Lynn Lazarz and Ashley Elizabeth Lazarz all of whom she loved very much. A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Treemont Skilled Nursing for their care and a special thank you to Carol Brown, her Hospice nurse.
