Joy Frances Yawn, born November 9, 1916 to Albert and Eleanor Stewart in Houston, Texas, returned to God on July 9, 2010 in Houston. For many years, Joy was active in Crisis Hotline and Kentwood Manor Civic Club. She was former president of Houston Educational Secretaries Association, retired from Houston ISD, and was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Joy took a leadership role in all her activities.
Mrs. Yawn was preceded in death by her husband, John Alfred Yawn; sons, Donald Earl Yawn and Dennis Alfred Yawn, and granddaughter, Shelly Goza. She is survived by her sweetheart, Mike Cambon; daughters-in-law, Bonnie Yawn and Patsy Yawn; grandchildren, Steven, Curtis, John, and Kelly; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen McDonald; nieces, Karen Petry and Trudy Mueller; nephew, Ralph Stewart, and other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at Heights Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 420 Woodard Street, Houston, Texas 77009. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
