Our beloved, Joy Stagg went to be with God at the age of 68, on November 18, 2020 in Houston, Texas while peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico on February 18, 1952. Joy graduated from San Jacinto Senior High School in 1970 and attended The University of Houston Nursing Program. She was married to her lifelong love Francis “Frank” Leonard Stagg in 1974. Joy worked as a Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and Retail Manager. After her retirement, Joy enjoyed going above and beyond for the holidays, decorating the house and baking, often being referred to as “Cake Lady” by family and friends.
She was best known for her fierce can-do attitude and the endless love she had for her family. We will always remember her as the absolute best loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dog & cat mom. Joy was predeceased by her father Thomas Gonzales, her mother Carmela (Cervelli) Gonzales, and her brothers Eddie Gonzales and Robert Gonzales. She was survived by her husband Frank Stagg; her daughter Tera Stagg; her son Johnny Batiste and his wife Shyann Batiste; her grandchildren: Jalen Jenkins, John Batiste, and Kendall Boutte; her great-grandson Xavier Jenkins; her sisters: Myra Furnish, Linda Coker, Lucy Gonzales and Lora Morales; her brothers Tommy Gonzales and Larry Gonzales and numerous other family members and friends.
A viewing will be held for Joy on Sunday, November 29 at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway Houston, Texas 77039 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family and friends are also invited to a Celebration of Life for Joy on Monday, November 30 at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway Houston, Texas 77039. Seating begins at 1:30 p.m. and the service starts at 2:30 p.m. This will be followed by an optional graveside prayer.
