Born July 5, 1933 on a farm near Melissa, Texas. She was the youngest of 5 children - 1 brother and 3 sisters. Joy went to elementary and junior high in Melissa and graduated from McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney, Texas in 1950. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Melissa, Texas where her father was a deacon and member of the choir. She maintained her childhood friendships with her friends Betty Sue Stiles Jeanes, JoAnne Porter Preston and Jessie Faye Mangum Robertson for the rest of their lives. Joy enjoyed reading and cooking for her children and grandchildren, especially at the holidays. Joy and Buddy were married for 49 years until his death in 1999, devoted to each other. Joy and Buddy enjoyed providing for their children and encouraging them in their school activities.
After her children were grown, Joy was active in the Old Spring Branch Civic Association for many years. Joy and Buddy enjoyed traveling to the Grand Canyon and across the United States. They especially enjoyed their trips to Pasco, Washington to visit their friends JoAnne and Bill Preston.
