JOSHUA ISIDORE GONZALES, A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF THE HOUSTON AREA, PASSED AWAY UNEXPECTEDLY ON JULY 14 AT THE AGE OF 45, WHILE VACATIONING IN NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS. JOSH IS SURVIVED BY HIS BELOVED DAUGHTER, OLIVIA MARIE GONZALES; MOTHER JAYNE G. JECMENEK (ALAN); FATHER ISIDORE GONZALES (YOLANDA), BROTHER MATTHEW GONZALES (ROXANNE), AND SISTER MARGARITA MONIQUE GONZALES. HE IS PREDECEASED BY HIS BELOVED GRANDMOTHER, ANNE MARIE FLORES, AND GRANDFATHER DANIEL FLORES. UNCLES, AUNTS, COUSINS & FRIENDS, HUNDREDS OF FRIENDS, HE LEAVES BEHIND TO CARRY ON HIS LEGACY, AS HE CONSIDERED THEM ALL “HIS FAMILIA”.
JOSHUA SPENT HIS SCHOOL YEARS IN WEST HOUSTON, ATTENDING PEGGY WILSON ELEMENTARY AND WATKINS JUNIOR HIGH UNTIL 7TH GRADE, WHEN HE MOVED TO THE KATY AREA AND FINISHED HIS EDUCATION AT MEMORIAL PARKWAY JUNIOR HIGH AND JAMES E TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL.
IT WAS DURING HIS SCHOOL YEARS THAT HE FELL IN LOVE WITH SKATEBOARDING, STREET SKATING SPECIFICALLY. HE WAS AN ARTIST ON HIS BOARD, TRYING NEW TRICKS CONSTANTLY, CREATING NEW TRICKS OR ADDING TWISTS TO OLD FAVORITES. HE WAS KNOWN FOR MANY YEARS FOR HIS TALENT AND DEDICATION AS A SKATER WHO WOULD SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE THE YOUTH IN THE KATY/HOUSTON AREA HE WOULD MEET AT LOCAL CONTESTS, SKATE PARKS, DITCHES, ETC. TO CONTINUE TO PUSH THEMSELVES AND TRY NEW THINGS. JOSHUA’S SKATING PATH CAME TO PRETTY MUCH A HALT AFTER THE TRAGIC LOSS OF HIS CHILDHOOD SKATE BROTHER AND BEST FRIEND, DAVID UNGER. HE WAS KNOWN TO SAY THAT DAVID WAS THE FIRE IN HIS FEET, AND AFTER DAVID DIED, HIS FIRE FOR SKATEBOARDING DIMMED. HE REGRETTED LETTING THAT LOSS TAKE SO MUCH OF HIS FIRE AWAY FOR SO MANY YEARS.
HE WOULD RIDE HIS BIKE IN THE "CRITICAL MASS HOUSTON CYCLING" JOSH LOVED IT!
JOSH HAD A HEART OF GOLD, WAS KIND, AND ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE. HE WAS FULL OF LIFE.
THE MOST WONDERFUL MOMENT OF HIS LIFE WAS THE BIRTH OF HIS ONLY CHILD, HIS LITTLE GIRL, OLIVIA MARIE GONZALES, "OLLIE BUG", AS HE ALWAYS REFERRED TO HER.
THEY WERE INSEPARABLE! SHE WAS THE LOVE OF HIS BEING. JOSH AND OLLIE DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER. SHE WAS HIS NEW BEST FRIEND.
THERE WAS NEVER A BEACH JOSH DIDN’T LOVE. BESIDES HIS DAUGHTER’S LAUGHTER, THE SOUND OF OCEAN WAVES WAS HIS MOST FAVORITE SOUND, AND HE INCORPORATED BOTH OF THESE THINGS INTO HIS LIFE AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. HE LOVED TO SHARE HIS LOVE OF THE OCEAN, AND MUSIC AND LIFE WITH HIS DAUGHTER. HE CONSIDERED HIS ROLE AS “DADDA” AS THE BIGGEST HONOR OF HIS LIFE.
