Josie was born on August 24, 1936, on a small cotton farm in Ammannsville, Texas. She often reminisced about her childhood, sharing cherished stories of working side by side with her father in the fields and her deep love for the farm.
She married Martin Kaase October 23,1955, and together they moved to Houston, where they began their family, raising four children: Gary, Terry, Renee, and Marty. Josie stayed home to care for their children while Martin worked as a truck driver for Red Ball Trucking. In time, they pursued a dream together, founding K&P Trucking, a small family business that became a livelihood for their sons, Gary and Terry, as well as their nephews, Donnie Havemann and David Kainer.
Tragically, Martin passed away on March 8, 1979, at the age of 42. In the face of this immense loss, Josie displayed remarkable strength and determination, managing their business and raising their children on her own. Her unwavering work ethic and resilience were unmatched, and she was a true fighter who never backed down from a challenge.
A few years later, Josie found companionship and love with Weinart Grohmann. They shared over 40 wonderful years together. Weinart owned a music studio and played in his own band, and Josie delighted in attending events with him, enjoying the music and the lively social gatherings.
After selling the trucking business, Josie began a new chapter, working as a receptionist at River Oaks Bank. For 28 years, she greeted customers with warmth and kindness, a role she truly loved.
Josie had a passion for polka music, dancing, and her faith. She was deeply involved in her church’s bazaars and devoted much of her life to her family and the farm in Weimar, Texas, where she cared for her beloved donkeys, Miracle and Hope, for over 30 years. Holidays, especially Easter, held a special place in her heart. She took great joy in hosting family gatherings, from frying fish on Good Friday to preparing chicken-fried steak in her cozy kitchen on Holy Saturday.
