Joseph Christopher Wiggins, 55, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014. He was born on May 11, 1959 in Wichita, Kansas to Guy and Julia Wiggins. Growing up with a father who served 20 years in the USAF, the family lived and traveled a lot both domestically and overseas.
Lovingly called by his middle name Chris, his proudest accomplishment was passing the test to qualify for his journeyman plumbing license. He worked as a plumber for many years and on the side did pro bono plumbing jobs for disabled and needy people.
Chris traveled to a war zone in Afghanistan for over a year to provide new project support and upgrade essential plumbing for hospital and living quarters for all personnel.
Chris had many hobbies, some of which included fishing and NASCAR. His favorite place to live was Alamogordo, New Mexico because he liked the beauty of the desert and nearby mountains.
Chris’s death was caused by lung cancer from tobacco use that was discovered when he was hospitalized for severe back pain, which had also caused him problems for many years. After back surgery he began chemotherapy and radiation treatments, 2 sessions of each for over a period of a year. Although the treatments did produce results in his lungs, the cancer rapidly spread throughout his system, which ultimately overtook him.
Chris was preceded in death by his loving parents Guy Wiggins and Julia Wiggins. He is survived by his siblings Ronnie Wiggins and wife Louise, sister Glenda Wiggins and brother Jerry Wiggins, as well as his only niece Wendy Wiggins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Betty Akins, Wendy Wiggins, Connie Ellisor and Maria Olvera for their loving care, support and prayers during Chris’s illness.
