Joseph “Joe” Lewis, a beloved husband, father, friend, and man of deep faith, was born on November 16th in Arnaudville, Louisiana, to Alfred and Alfreda Lewis. His life was a testament to unwavering dedication to family, work, and, most importantly, his faith.
Joe’s life was filled with hard work and determination. He began his career as a young sharecropper in Louisiana, where he learned the value of perseverance and responsibility. After moving to Houston, Texas, Joe worked as a delivery driver before embarking on a successful, decades-long career as a pipe fitter with Smith Pipe. His commitment and skill led him to co-own C&L Pipe Services, where he continued working until his well-deserved retirement.
From an early age, Joe’s life was grounded in a profound love for God. Christened in the Catholic Church as a child, he grew into a man of unshakable faith, dedicating himself to following Jesus and later proclaiming his commitment through baptism. Over the years, he actively served in his places of worship, including Higher Expectations Church (Pastor Bryant Lee), Love Center Church (Pastor Jimmy Holley), and Messiah Mission Fellowship Church (Pastor Jim Miller), where his kindness, generosity, and devotion to the Lord inspired all who knew him.
Joe’s passion for serving others extended to his family, friends, and community. Known for his incredible cooking, he delighted in preparing hearty meals that brought people together, from his savory étouffée to his famous barbecue ribs. His love also extended to animals, especially his horse, Hoochie Mama, his dogs Black Gal and Rocky, his grand-dog Daisy, along with his cats and chickens. A racehorse owner, outdoor enthusiast, and lover of big trucks, Joe lived with a joyful spirit and open heart.
Alongside his faith and family, Joe dedicated himself to his community. He was a founding member of the Highway 90 Social Club and the Northeast Trail Riders, leaving behind a legacy of friendship, service, and leadership that will endure.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Lewis and Alfreda Charles Lewis; brothers, Alfred Lewis Jr., Clarence Lewis, Allen Lewis and Merklin Lewis; sisters, Madolia Savior, Stella LeBleu, Sherlene Pillar, and Mary Lewis; and his son, Quentin Smith Sr.
