ELLIS, Joseph Dale, 62, of Katy, Texas died on August 6, 2016. Joseph (Joe) was the firstborn child and only son born to the late Iola Rose (Ellis) Adams. Joe was born in Chapmanville, West Virginia, on March 13, 1954. Joe began his military career in April 1972 and later obtained his GED. Joseph served honorably from 1972 until his retirement from the United States Army in 1993. He was recognized for 20 years of dedicated service to the Military Police Corps. During Joseph’s military service, he received the following recognitions/awards: Expert, M-16 Rifle, Marksman, .38 Caliber Pistol, Marksman, .45 Caliber Pistol, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Armed Services Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Superior Unit Award, Sharpshooter Badge, 9mm Pistol. Joseph enjoyed serving as a dog handler in the Military Police Corps, and he especially enjoyed his time serving at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium.
After Joe’s retirement from the United States Army, he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Cochise County, Arizona, and later held various positions in private security until his death. On November 21, 1997, Joseph married Jennifer G. Klingler, who survives and resides in Katy, Texas. In addition, Joe is survived by his two children: Daniel Joseph Ellis of Herriman, Utah and Katerina Rose Ellis of Katy, Texas. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Breanna Ellis of Herriman, Utah, and by his sisters, Vicki Cherup and Darlene Adams, both of Brandon, Florida. A visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas on Wednesday, August 10th from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 11th at 10:00am at St. Peter's United Methodist Church located at 20775 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas with a committal service immediately following at Memorial Oaks.
