

Joseph Francis Delahanty or “Joe”, 85, passed away from natural causes Friday, March 18th, 2022, surrounded by his family and loved ones in his home of 54 years in Houston, Texas. He was married to Mary Katherine Delahanty in 1965 and had 57 wonderful years of marriage. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Joseph was born in Weehawken, New Jersey on July 1st, 1936. He graduated from renowned Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx, New York and received a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1957 from Stevens Institute of Technology, a top ranked private university in Hoboken, New Jersey. Joe also served his country as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, honorably discharged as a Captain in 1967. After college, he worked for over 40 successful years in the Engineering sector for M. W. Kellogg and Stone and Webster, sought after and implementing solutions all over the world to include China, Japan, Korea, and India.
Joseph had many passions, and as with his professional life, he sought to achieve the very best in every personal endeavor outside of work. His passion for scouting achieved the highest honors in the profession for his dedication to the Houston counsel and mentoring of young scouts. Joe also actively dedicated his time to the to the Knights of Columbus counsel #8482, a Catholic Fraternal Organization dedicated to education, charity, religion, and social work, achieving the highest level of 4th degree. Throughout his life in Houston, he was an active volunteer at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, contributing his time as a lector and Eucharistic minister. During his later years, Joe dedicated his time to prayer for others, attending and speaking at the Prince of Peace ACTS retreats, as well as leading the Rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet at the church. He also had an eidetic memory, was a life-time learner, avid storyteller, and accomplished orator, who loved to tell jokes and mentor others. All those he mentored throughout his personal life recall his contributions and miss him dearly.
Joe is survived by his wife Mary Katherine, Daughter Lisa Marie Raymond and Husband Michael Raymond, Son James Michael Delahanty, and Wife Tuesdai Delahanty. Devoted grandchildren: Kailey and Jay Martinez, Suzanne Delahanty and James Delahanty. He is predeceased by his Sister Patricia Liebertz, Sister Cathy, and husband Len Bielski, and survived by his youngest Sister Mary and husband John Lally, and sixteen admiring nieces and nephews.
A wake and Rosary will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Houston Texas on April 19, 2022, at 6pm, followed by a full Funeral mass at Prince of Peace on Friday, April 22nd at 10:30 am. He will be interred later at the Houston National Cemetery, receiving full Veterans honors.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Prince of Peace noting either the Prince of Peace ACTS Retreat, and Knights of Columbus counsel #8482 to whom he was dedicated.
