José Salazar Olvera born in Abasolo Coahuila, México, he passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, January 1st, 2021 surrounded by his family via video chat at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was raised in el Ejido Coahuila in Valle Hermoso Tamaulipas, México.
He is survived by his wife Imelda Salazar whom he was married to for 63 years. He is also survived by his son Jose M. Salazar, MD and his daughters Marilú Gonzalez, Nancy Flores, Norma Ordoñez, and Karina Ochoa. Daughter in law Rachel, son’s in-law Pablo, Julian, Mario and Luis.
He also leaves a legacy with all of his grandchildren - Juan Gonzalez, Marcos Gonzalez, Aracely Berlanga, Leslie Salazar, Monica Flores, Giovanni Ordoñez, Ashley Flores, Eduardo Ochoa, Brianna Ochoa, Iván Ordoñez, and Cristian Ochoa. Along with them are his great-grandchildren Isaias, Jonathan, Jasmine, Jaime, Valeria, Melanie, Bryan, Erick, and Valentina.
He will dearly be missed by his only sister Catalina Castro and husband Rudy and daughters Clarissa and Cathy, and sister-in-laws Eloisa Salazar and Sofia Salazar. Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cipriano and Santos Salazar, brothers Juan Salazar and wife Graciela, Cipriano Salazar and wife Paula, Santos Salazar and wife Carmen, Francisco Salazar and wife Zapopan, Andres Salazar, Isidoro Salazar, sister Hortencia Martinez Salazar and husband Anastacio Martinez and granddaughter Cassandra A Flores.
He loved watching TV, listening music, going fishing with his son José, his son-in-law Mario, grandchildren Giovanni and Iván, with Karina and her family, and with his nephews Juan Manuel, Jose Juan, Isidoro and Sergio.
He spoiled us with his traditional Menudo breakfast on a family tamale day before Christmas and with Mexican barbacoa and chicharrones from La Casita. Also, with his favorite phrases: “Vamos hacer tamales” (We are going to make tamales) and “Ya vamos a acabar de hacer los tamales” (We are almost done making tamales), “Haber hasta cuando” (I guess we‘ll see when you’re done).
He loved sports like baseball, fishing, boxing, and watching old west movies. He was always busy doing things around the house like cleaning, painting, rearranging things, taking care of his garden, and building things.
He was a workaholic and worked at La Nestle (milk company in Valle Hermoso), Brown & Root Company and at the University of Houston Main Campus.
Due to the circumstances with Covid-19 no visitation will be available.
Masks and social distancing will be enforced for immediate family only.
