Jose “Joe” Lino Ochoa passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at the age of 66 at his home in Pearland, TX. surrounded by his family. He fought a long, courageous battle with determination and a positive spirit. Despite the pain and difficulty Joe dealt with, he was strong until the very end.
Joe was born on May 21, 1957, in Mission, Texas to Lino and Odilia. Joe married Anna Soria Ochoa on March 14, 1992. They were married for 31 years. His mother Odilia Garza Ochoa and his in-laws Margaret and Julian Soria preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife Anna Soria Ochoa, father Lino Ochoa, son Jason Ryan Ochoa (Terri), Brothers Richard (Beatrice), David (Kelly), sister Laura (Dwight) Blaskowsky and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by the Soria, Luna, and Damian families who loved him deeply.
He was a graduate of Pasadena High School class of 1976. He lettered in football and baseball. Joe was a competitive, well-accomplished athlete “back in the day”. In 1981, he welcomed his son Jason to the family. Joe met the love of his life, Anna, in 1985 and they got married in 1992. He worked for N.A.S.A. for over 35 years. He started as a plant operator and worked his way up to one of three Mission Controls power plant training chief operators. They called him “The Chief” at work but he was known as “Big Daddy” at home.
Joe was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling, gambling, and spending time with family. He also loved all genres of music and enjoyed dancing at family events and parties. No matter where he went, Joe found time to play golf. He had a lifelong dream of going to the Masters Tournament and it became a reality for him in 2013 at Augusta National Golf Course. He also enjoyed watching other sports but was especially fond of football and baseball. He was a faithful fan of the University of Texas Longhorns. Hook em’ Horns!
Joe loved a variety of good foods with his rich palette and was open to trying anything at least once! In fact, your leftovers were never safe if Joe was in the house. He gave himself the nickname of the Landshark.
He will always be remembered as a kind, loving, generous man who enjoyed meeting new people. He cared deeply for everyone and always took a special interest in his nieces and nephews. He warmly welcomed people into his home as long as they didn’t want to change the channel when he was watching golf. Joe’s favorite subject was history, but he was knowledgeable on many subjects making him a great conversationalist.
Joe, we will miss you immensely but know we will see you again. You were one of a kind! We love you!
