Son Christopher Davalos and his daughter Elexxa Davalos and her mother Erika Padilla. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Mariano and Guadalupe Davalos and his 4 siblings. Paul Davalos, Mariano Davalos, Vicente Davalos and Janie Sanchez.
Joe was loved by many brothers and sister in laws and was endearingly known by his many nieces, nephews and friends as Uncle Joe.
Joe was born in Devers, Texas or as he would tell you (China) and grew up in the Second Ward of Houston, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force. Joe worked for St. Joe Container Company and then McKinley Container for over 30 years. He started as a truck driver and then promoted to a shipping supervisor. During those years he also managed two Houston institutions in the Mexican American Music community; the Stardust Ballroom and the Starlite until their closing.
Joe was a servant of God until the end. He was a community leader and volunteered for many organizations. To know him was to love him and you had a friend in him. Once you met him be assured it would not be a quick meeting. He always had the best stories and could tell you about the history of the Houston area that you never knew existed. Just don’t ask him about sports. That was left for mom. Albeit he could tell you everything about every Houston team, he made sure to root for the opposing team just to annoy her. And speaking of knowledge. If the story ran in the Houston Post or Houston Chronicle he could tell you all the details. He read the newspaper every day front to back and back to front. He may have been one of the few to still get a paper delivered.
Joe will be missed by so many. In his memory, do something great for your family and your community.
