He was born in Amarillo, TX on august 8, 1933. Johnny graduated from Jefferson Davis High School.
He married the love of his life Marna Sue Covington on May 31, 1975.
Johnny had a career selling used cars.
He was a member of Humble United Methodist Church.
He is survived by children; Johnny Covington Jr. and wife Debbie, Cindy Jenkins and husband Albert, Rodney Covington and wife Jackie, Tommy McMurtrey, Elson McMurtrey and wife Lori, grandchildren; Breannon Covington, Shaun Covington, Terri Covington, Jacobi Jenkins, Jordan Jenkins, Dakota Covington, Mark Covington, Shantel Covington, Mark McMurtrey and wife Lisa, Christopher McMurtrey, Eric McMurtrey, Rebecca Zahn and husband Nick, Jeremy McMurtrey and wife Leslie, Deana Hull, Kourtney Covington, Justin Covington, Morgan Kirksey and husband Cody, and many great grandchildren.
Johnny was preceded in death by wife Marna Covington, daughter Brenda Covington, son Terry Covington, father Claude Covington, mother Beatrice Covington, brothers Donald Covington and Jerry Covington, and sisters Deloris Jones and Wanda Chasteen.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
Serving as pallbearers are Chris McMurtrey, Jeremy McMurtrey, Marc McMurtrey, Eric McMurtrey, Shaun Covington and Justin Covington.
