Johnnie Mae McDonald was born March 6, 1947, in Houston, Texas to Robert and Frankie (England) McDonald. She departed this life December 20, 2023, in Round Rock, Texas. She was the third child of four children born to her parents. She attended school at Highland Heights Elementary, Harper Jr, High, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965. Johnnie continued her higher education at Texas Southern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1969. Johnnie started her career as an administrative assistant at Texas Southern University until she began at Exxon Mobile in the Pipeline Division where she faithfully worked until her retirement, in 2009, for 35 years. After retirement she began teaching English as a second language to those seeking citizenship. She continued this work until she relocated to Round Rock, TX in 2020 to live with her daughter and family.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Calm Missionary Baptist Church. The family transitioned to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church when she was a teenager where she faithfully served for over 30 years. She selflessly gave of herself to various auxiliaries. She served on the Pastor’s Aid Auxiliary, Sunday School, member of the youth and Jr. Usher committees, and was a faithful member of the choir.
Sis. Johnson was called to serve until her death at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. At Galilee, she continued her gift serving as the President of the Pastor’s Aid Auxiliary until her health began to fail. She was an active member of the Houston Area Field Missionary where she served as the treasurer. While residing in Round Rock, Texas with her daughter, Tangelia, she attended Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Frankie McDonald, as well as her son Harold Norwood Jr. (Lisa), her sister, Joyce Howard Miller, and brothers Frank Oscar Howard and Robert McDonald Jr. Additionally, she was preceded by her husbands Harold Norwood Sr., Peter Allen, Earnest Roberson, Irvin Stevenson, and Joe Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Tangelia Pruitt (Enas) of Round Rock, her granddaughters, Camille Pruitt and Erin Pruitt, her sister, Rejetter Williams of Houston, brothers Larry McDonald (Jeanette) of Fort Worth, and Billy Barller of California, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation for Johnnie will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 starting at 10:00 AM at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 6616 D S Bailey Ln, Houston, TX 77091, immediately followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Committal services will be follow at
