Johnie was born on the 12th of October 1926, to Katherine Peterson and John Schow in Lamesa, Texas. She grew up in Fort Worth, where she attended Paschal High School. Upon graduating from high school, Johnie pursued her interest in aviation by training with the Civil Aeronautics Administration. She became an airline communicator and worked in various cities across Texas. Johnie later worked as a ticket agent in Houston, where she met her beloved husband of over 40 years, Morad Malek-Aslani.
Johnie was preceded in death by her husband “Mo.” She is survived by her sister, Jeanie Leonard and her husband Earle; and her three daughters, Cima Malek-Aslani and her husband Walter Schacht, Shirine O’Connell and her husband John, Georgette Lockwood and her husband Doug; along with five grandchildren, Nathaniel Schacht, Mitra O’Connell, Brian O’Connell, Elliott Lockwood and Leigh Lockwood.
As a young adult, Johnie enjoyed ballroom dancing lessons and developed a lifelong passion for dancing. She became an excellent dancer and was active in several dance clubs around Houston as well as a social club, Who’s Who. Johnie also enjoyed tennis and traveling. Most importantly, Johnie was a fantastic mother, mother-in-law and grandmother whose spirited personality, hilarious jokes, colorful hats and beautiful smile will be missed.
A memorial service celebrating Johnie’s life is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 30th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
