John Richard Ulery Jr. (Dick) was born in Atlanta, Georgia a year after Pearl Harbor was attacked. His Dad and mother, Betty and Dick, were separated for the first four years of his life while his Dad served in the South Pacific. His family grew with the birth of his sisters Patty and Mary and brother Gerry. He attended Catholic schools in Atlanta, graduated from Georgia Tech and entered the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam conflict.
During those years and a decade to follow, he started his own family. Jeff, Matt, David and Colleen were born and grew up in Houston where Dick spent his career in the oil and gas industry.
He will be missed by his family and friends, including his wife of 21 years, Judy.
He was a traveler, explorer and scholar.
