John was born in Liberty, Texas to John H. Thornton and Lena DeJohn.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ethel Mae Greer; and brother, J.V. Thornton.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Thornton; daughters, Tammy and husband J.W. Smith, and Theresa Thornton; granddaughter, Lauren and husband Tyler Martin; great granddaughter, Macie Martin; and granddaughter, Sarah Smith; sisters, Betty and husband Al Senn, and Linda and husband Jimmy Haines; and a very special sister-in-law, Katrinae Thornton.
John also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful and loving friends.
