John Austin Simmons entered this world to great joy on the 7th of October 1986, in Houston, and departed on Saturday the 30th of April 2022, leaving behind his parents, John Corbin and Kirby Devine Simmons; his sister, Mary Carolyn House and her husband A.J.; and four nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his uncles, Dave Devine and Lynne, Patrick Devine and Jenni, Kelly Simmons and Christie, and Ed Simmons; as well as many beloved cousins and extended family.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, David Johnston and Carolyn Douglas Devine and John Urie and Anne Woodward Simmons.
Seven was his lucky number. He was born on the seventh at seven pounds, seven ounces during the seventh inning of the American League Playoffs of the World Series.
Austin was ultimately creative, teaching himself five musical instruments, which he enjoyed playing and performing for others. He was also an excellent artist and writer.
Austin attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston. He worked alongside his father at Copeland Industries.
A graveside service is to be conducted at twelve o’clock noon on Saturday, the 7th of May, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston, where the Rev. L.M. Shafer is to officiate. Kindly note that due to construction on Washington Avenue guests will enter using the Kane Street entrance.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family and share remembrances during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
Austin will be sorely missed every day.
