John M. Robertson Jr

A native Houstonian, he attended San Jacinto High School and graduated from Lamar High School in 1941.

He attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the A&M Singing Cadets and graduated in the Class of 1945.

He served overseas from 1944-1945 in France, Germany and Austria during World War II as Staff Sergeant in the Fire Direction Center of Headquarters Battery in the 242nd Field Artillery Battalion of the United States Army.

He was employed from 1950-1986 with Tennessee Gas Transmission Company, East Tennessee Natural Gas Company, Midwestern Gas Transmission Company, all companies of Tenneco.

He was a graduate of Harvard School of Business Advance Management Program in 1972.

He was a lifelong member and supporter of the Texas A&M Association of Former Students and the 12th Man Association and a long time member of Westminster United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir many years as well as being involved in a number of other church activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Jean (Anderson) Robertson; and his parents, John Marshall Robertson, Sr., and Annie Gertrude (Toland) Robertson.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Robertson and husband Paul G. McDowell; sons, John M. Robertson, III and wife Diane, Thomas A. Robertson and wife Beth; as well as six grandsons, John IV, Jeff, Kyle, Jack, Chris, Hunter; and step-granddaughters, Meghan & Mallory Bailey, and Anna Alexander and husband Dan.

The family wishes to thank and express gratitude to his many friends and the staff at University Place Retirement Community for the years of happiness he experienced as a resident as well as to the caregivers at the University Place Nursing Center for the attentive and compassionate care he received during his last days.

A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 21st of February, in the sanctuary of Westminster United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe Street in Houston, where Rev. Jeff Powers, Senior Pastor, is to officiate.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception, also to be held at the church.

Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
