John Andrew Reyes was born in Houston, TX on February 3rd of 1968 to John and Caroline Reyes, and making a big sister of Randi R. Reyes. His birth delighted his grandparents, John and Eleanor Reyes and Andrew and Juanita Tijerina.
He was a gentle and loving son and brother with a strong sense of protectiveness over those he loved. He was strong, tall and had a funny sense of humor.
He graduated from Spring High School in Spring, TX and began working for Continental Airlines the Monday following his Saturday graduation ceremony. He remained with the company as it became United and was known as a hard-working, trustworthy and reliable employee. He considered himself fortunate to work with some great people for so many years and counted a few of them as fast friends and brothers in Christ.
He also served as Sergeant at Arms and Chaplain with La Familia Motorcycle Club and was proud to support Los Hermanos Motorcycle Club. He loved his brothers and cherished their frienship.
John lived his every moment for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and wanted everyone to know the joy of salvation. He gave wise advice, taught Sunday school, coached football for his 10 yr old nephew and admired and adored his sisters. He enjoyed woodworking, art, guns, cars and motorcycles. He was always his Grandmother Reyes' favorite grandchild. Everyone knew it and no one minded.
John passed away on August 23, 2020.
He is survived by his father, John Reyes, Jr., Step-mother, Sherry Reyes, a brother, Anthony Surber and his sisters, Randi Dryden, Hayley Turner and Hillary Reyes.
In addition, he leaves behind nephews, Andrew Dryden, Henry Surber, Landon Turner and nieces, Virginia Surber, Layla Turner and Elizabeth (Ellie) Reyes. John was loved deeply and will be missed greatly by a crowd of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
If you want to send a potted plant, they are welcome and can be sent to our home address. DM me for the address.
Everyone has extra Bibles in their homes that just sit on the shelf because they prefer a specific Bible on a daily basis. Donate your extra Bibles and we will get them into the hands of people in other countries who would give an arm and a leg to have one. They will include a label indicating they are being provided to honor the memory of John A. Reyes. DM me for the address.
You can donate blood or donate plasma.
John received copious amounts of blood in a mere seven months. Sometimes there were shortages. Every drop helps and right now, because of the accursed Covid-19, they are currently in need of donations.
Google BetheMatch.org and sign up to be an organ donor. Blood marrow transplants have to be a 10 out of 10 match. If you have siblings you love, be aware that brothers and sisters who share the same parents are most likely to be a match, but it is not a guarantee. In all of America, there was not one person who was a match for my brother. A bone marrow transplant might very well have saved his life.
Donate in his name to a charity of your choice. Shepherd's Purse does some amazing work, providing not only the love of God and food, but things that can change the lives if entire families - fruit trees, fishing boats and fishing equipment, sheep, goats....things that can help them make a living and provide for their families and neighbors.
John was very patriotic and proud that our father and both our maternal and paternal grandfathers served in three different branches of our military. Wounded Warrior Project does great work to aid our veterans.
Support a charity that provides clean water to areas that do not have a clean source of that life giving liquid.
Give out light, fuzzy soft blankets or gently used coats to the homeless in the winter. John did that and I think it is a great way to show love and compassion for some of our most vulnerable.
John wanted to reach as many people for Jesus as he could while he was here. Please help us help him continue to do so from his eternal home.
Thank you in advance for your gifts of love and remembrance. May God multiply it back to you seven fold.
Love in Christ,
Randi
