John N. Newman, 64 of Fayetteville, Texas, formerly of Houston, Texas passed away suddenly at home Saturday, January 18, 2014. He was born on August 17, 1949 in Meigs County, Tennessee to Tom and Velma Newman. John is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Reece Newman and a sister, Joyce Cockerham. John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Linda Van Liew Newman and his son Mark and wife Agatha Newman. Also, he is survived by many brother and sisters, Polly Rinehart, Maynard Newman, Ed Newman, Jim Newman, Bige Newman, Carolyn Tallent, Pete Newman, Bo Newman, and many nieces and nephews, and a Houston niece and nephew, Makenna Van Liew, and Gentry Van Liew, as well as special niece, Renee Tallent.
John was an automotive enthusiast and belonged to the Houston Area Chevrolet Club, and often displayed his autos at local car shows. He was employed at Cal-Tex Citrus Juice (Vita-Fresh) for 33 years until retiring to his cattle ranch in Fayetteville, Texas.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery 13001 Katy Freeway Houston TX 77079. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 22 at 3 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery.
