John Cerda Marquez peacefully died on July 5, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong Houstonian, born in 1937 to Bernardo Marquez and Maria Baldomera Cerda Marquez, much of his youth was spent in the 5th Ward and the North Side. He was a proud graduate of Jeff Davis High School in 1955, and earned his Business degree from the University of Houston in 1966. His appreciation of his education and Catholic faith was instilled in his children and grandchildren. He also loved to tell his children and grandchildren events of his childhood and enjoyed taking his children to the Astrodome for Astros baseball games. It is wonderful that he was able to see them clinch the title in 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ofelia Diaz Marquez, children John Arthur, Norma Hidalgo (Doug), Sonya Garcia (Julio), seven adoring grandchildren; Lizzy, Katie, Zoe, Tommy, Julito, Mary Anne, and Ben, brother Domingo Marquez (Beatrice), sister Lucy Stafford, aunts Joyce Flores, Anita Pulido Cerda, sisters-in-law Josephine Marquez, Sylvia Torres and her husband Tony and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who he loved very much.
