John was born on April 24, 1944 to the late Oswald and Rosie Keener in Russellville, Arkansas.
After graduating with the Danville High School Class of 1962 in Danville, Arkansas he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served from 1962-1966 in the Military Police, most notably guarding our aircraft during the Cuban Missile Crisis. John moved to Houston, Texas in 1968 to pursue a career in air conditioning and heating service. He was the owner and operator of Keener Air for 25 years and retired in 2010. John enjoyed many happy times with his family like attending the annual Keener family reunions, loved his Arkansas Razorbacks from an early age, and was a big fan of the Houston Astros. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to share his passion of hunting and fishing with his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Freida Hancock and Daisy Robinson, and brother Donald Keener.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Carol Keener, his daughter Tammie and husband Kevin Jimenez of Everton, AR, daughter Kristy and husband Chuck Riggs of Hot Springs, AR, stepdaughter Katie and husband Andrew Lankford of Cypress, TX, stepson Daniel Eckstrom and wife Becky of Salado, TX; his two brothers, Gil Keener of Muskogee, OK and Jim Keener and wife Peggy of Ormond Beach, FL; five grandchildren: Anthony Jimenez and wife Miranda of Kansas City, MO, Nicholas Jimenez of Springfield, MO, Riley Lankford of Cypress, TX, Haley Riggs and Troy Riggs of Hot Springs, AR; two great grandchildren: Everett Jimenez and Ashton Jimenez of Kansas City, MO; along with a host of nieces and nephews, and Tammie and Kristy's mother Shirley Jacobs of Hot Springs, AR.
A memorial service for John will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. Following the memorial service will be a committal service from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
There will be a reception at Louetta Road Baptist Church (8822 Louetta Rd. Spring Tx, 77379) following the graveside service.
