John attended James F. Helms Elementary, Alexander Hamilton Junior High, John H. Reagan Senior High and the University of Houston.
He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a Clerk for 46 years during that time John was elected as BRAC Union Local Chairman, General Secretary Treasurer, General Chairman representing clerks on six railroads, International Board of Trustees and Vice President representing Railway and Airline Clerks throughout the United States and Canada in their Labor Contracts. John served in the United States Army, 34th AAA Opns. Det. Headquarters Battery 32nd AAA Brigade, 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict and is a member of American Legion Post 52. He was a Past Master of Reagan Lodge 1037 A.F. & A.M. – 62 year member and Golden Trowel recipient. He was active in York Rite, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, Arabia Shriners, Past Patron of Houston Heights Chapter 258 Order of the Eastern Star – 56 year member, Former Texas Rangers Foundation, and Grand Cross of Color International Order of Rainbow for Girls. John was a proud supporter of families of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters through the 100 Club.
John was preceded in death by his parents John A. Jenkins and Mary E. Munger Jenkins and his brother James A. Jenkins. He is survived by his wife Helen Jane Perry Jenkins and his daughters Patricia Jenkins Goodrum and Lesa Jenkins Dube and husband Mark; grandchildren Sarah Goodrum Altmyer and husband Dustin, Cory Condrey and wife Ashley, Alex Goodrum and wife Allison, Randle Dube Browning and husband Ted, Mark Dube, Jr. and wife Kendall, John Lowe, Adam Dube and Joshua Dube; great grandchildren Grayson Dube, Harlan Browning and twins, Austin and Everett Goodrum, on the way; nephews and nieces James A. Jenkins, Jeff A. Jenkins, Jay A. Jenkins, Julie A. Jenkins, Matthew J. Jenkins and Rosemary K. Jenkins-Davis; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers are Dustin Altmyer, Cory Condrey, Mark Dube, Jr., John Lowe, Adam Dube and Joshua Dube. Memorial gifts: American Heart Association and The 100 Club.
