Scott known as Daddy, Popa and Ol Pa was a farmer. He and his wife, and his parents before him, raised cattle, hogs, chickens, vegetables and crops like cotton, maze and corn. As a teenager he showed a steer at the Texas State Fair in Dallas and won 3rd Place statewide. As a young man, he joined the United States Army during WWII where he later received a medical discharge.
In 1952, his wife Evelyn was stricken with polio. She spent the next 20 months in the hospital which brought her to Houston, Texas. At that time, Scott moved his family to Houston and took a job as a glazer with Alamo Glass Company making minimum wage but was still able to provide for his family. From there he committed his whole life to caring for his wife, who lived in a wheelchair, and to raising their children.
Scott’s greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always asking about each person individually and all their activities, never forgetting anyone’s birthday. He enjoyed all sports, both playing in his youth and watching on television throughout his life. He loved playing dominoes and played frequently with his friends at Hometown on Belfort. Everyone who knew Scott was amazed at his incredible memory and appreciated his kind spirit.
He lived a long and fulfilling life for 96 years and will be missed by his family and many friends.
