Dear Jeanette (and family),

I hope you'll remember me.   My name is Brad Patterson.  John and I worked together at Pyramid Mfg. Co. in the late seventies and early eighties.   My wife Sandy and I met you at several of the Company functions, and you and John came to our house for dinner once.   We also exchanged Christmas cards over the years.  

Living in Austin, I only just heard that John had passed away last January.   I want to express how sorry Sandy and I are for your loss, and to let you know that our thoughts are with you.  

I also wanted to express to you how lucky I was, and how grateful I am to have known John, and to have had him as my Mentor.   Along with several other young engineers, I came to Pyramid in 1975; two years out of Texas A&M, with a head full of facts, figures, and design theories.   But John, as Chief Engineer; patiently taught me the most valuable lesson of all.   He trained my mind.   He taught me to "Think like an Engineer".   For that, and for his patience and his kindness; I will always be thankful.  

I retired last October, after having practiced engineering for 42 years; running my own small engineering practice for the last 30 of those years.  Whatever engineering success I may have had; most of the credit must go to John.  My only regret is that I never managed to get to Houston, to tell him these things in person.  He was a fine man.  I'll miss him.

John was a delight to be with, bringing his smile with a funny comment and his unique perspective to every conversation.  He made you think! Pat a person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, he will still alive in your heart and mind, through your memories, they will live on. Please accept my condolences, he will not be forgotten.

Pat, I sincerely appreciate you father's service to our country, he was truly a member of the Greatest Generation! So many Americans do not realise what that generation did for us and for the world.

I am very sorry for you and your family's loss, my prayers will be with you all.  May God bless. You will meet again.
