John Roosevelt Cooper Sr. was born to the union of the late Theodore Roosevelt Cooper and Alice Thompson Cooper on February 15, 1943, in Brookshire, Texas. He was the youngest of two children. He attended elementary school in Brookshire, Texas and moved to Piney Point with his parents, to start his middle school education.Upon graduating from Evan E. Worthing High School, John attended Texas Southern University. During College he met and married Joanne Vance. To this union three children were born. John was a faithful and active member since 1973 serving as a Deacon, former president of the Usher Auxiliary, member of the Sunday School and Baptist Training Union until his health no longer allowed him to serve.For many years John worked as a warehouse manager for Metro Builders Hardware Inc. Having an entrepreneur spirit was the spring board to him becoming a define business owner. Which led him to open his own successful builders hardware store in the 1960 area. Being a certified locksmith was a trade in which he took much pride in doing and being a spearhead to others to follow the trade. John leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Joanne, Two sons, John R. Cooper, Jr. (Audrey) and Michael Cooper, Sr. (Cheryl). One daughter, Cheryl (Cooper) Sanders (Julien). Eight Grandchildren; Three Great-Grandchildren; Two God-Children, a host of nieces and nephews, One Aunt (Thelma Sampson), One Uncle and wife (Nathaniel and Marie Edwards).Preceding him in death are his parents, grandparents (Thornton & Gertrude Cooper) and One sister Gertie Williams (Clarence).
