John Timothy Collins was born on April 5th, 1961 in Temple, Texas. He was the third son of Eli Collins and Alice Hodge Collins. John began his Christian journey early in life at Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Temple.
John was a stellar athlete in football, basketball, and track for the Temple Wildcats, in which he was a proud 1979 graduate. He would go on to cherish those memories made at Temple High School for the rest of his life.
John moved to Houston to further his education at Texas Southern University, where he earned his Bachelors of Business Administration degree. During his collegiate years at TSU, John became consumed with the black HBCU experience, which led John to pledge the “Beta Delta” Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
John later met, fell in love, and was united in holy matrimony to Fina Saulter on April 7th, 1990. This union was blessed with 3 handsome boys; Correan, Sean, and Jared.
Inspired by his Christian upbringing, John strongly believed in community service. He served his community in various capacities including:
• Director and President of Stafford Youth Basketball Association for almost 2 decades
• Active member of “Zeta Xi” Graduate Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity
• Active member of the NAACP
• Voter Deputy Registrar (register voters)
• Member of Stafford, Tx Facilities Planning Committee
• A volunteer for numerous campaigns for local government and school board
John was humbly passionate about helping everyone to be a better version of themselves and to reach their greatest potential in life without taking any credit. John lived by the self-prescribed motto:
“The 4 D’s of Life: Dedication, Determination, Desire, and Discipline. Any two will get your through, and all four will get you more”
John was proceeded in death by his parents: Eli and Alice Collins and mother in love, Alice Saulter.
Loving memories will forever be etched in the hearts of his devoted wife of 31 years, Fina Collins; 4 sons, Dana Bradford, Correan Collins, Sean Collins (Chasitee), and Jared Collins; 1 grandson, Marteze Bradford; Goddaughter, Carrigan White; Godson, Chancellor Donato; 3 brothers, James Collins (Hazel) of Maryland, Kenneth Collins (Brenda) of Virginia, and Alvin Collins (Jackie) of Missouri City, TX; 3 brothers in love, Charles Saulter Jr. (Estela) of Lousiana , Damon Roberts (Rhonda), and Roman Saulter (Melissa); 1 sister in love, Monica Roberson (Johnny); 1 father in love, Charles Saulter (Brenda); 1 aunt, Cora Lee Hill of Temple, Texas.
John will forever be remembered by a grateful host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, a “village” of friends and colleagues.
