John Moore Cavanaugh, 74, of Bentwater in Montgomery, passed away Friday, the 20th of February. He was born the 14th of September 1940 in Waterbury, Connecticut to John Francis Cavanaugh and Evelyn Moore Cavanaugh. He attended The Hotchkiss School and Cheshire Academy and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. John was an Associate Partner with John L. Wortham & Son as an Insurance Broker until his retirement in 2006 when he was then able to spend more time with family, traveling and enjoying his favorite pastime - golf.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Meyer Cavanaugh; two children, Susan Cavanaugh Sampson and her husband, Jeffrey Thomas Sampson and Bradford Moore Cavanaugh and his wife, Sorcha R’hianna Cavanaugh; and five grandchildren, Danielle Cavanaugh Sampson, Thomas Wyatt Sampson, Samuel John Sampson, Thomas Moore Cavanaugh and William Fletcher Cavanaugh.
Friends are cordially invited to a reception in memory of John from two o’clock to four o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 28th of February at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, in Houston.
In lieu of the customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in John’s memory be directed to the American Cancer Society, 6301 Richmond Avenue, Houston, Texas 77057 or the Houston Symphony, 615 Louisiana, Suite 102, Houston, Texas 77002.
