John Sullivan Black

He is survived by his wife, Gwyn D. Guidy, and their three kitty cats. He is also survived by his sister, Sheryl Dove, and her two children, David and Gerina.

John’s predeceased parents were John Dorman and Wayne Inez (Bass) Black. He was a native Houstonian, born at St Joseph’s Hospital in downtown Houston. John met his wife in a math class at U of H in 1978 and they quickly became a couple. They bought their house together in Lindale Park in 1987 and were married on March 18, 2000.

John attended Sam Houston High School, Richland Junior College (RJC in Dallas) and U of H. He received an Associate Degree in Landscape Horticulture from RJC and both a B.S and M.S. in Mathematics from U of H. He retired in 2009 from his career as a software engineer for various technical companies.

Graveside burial services will be held at Brookside Cemetery on Saturday, March 27. The funeral procession of cars will leave the funeral home for the grave site at 11:00 AM. Services will be conducted by Father Greg Seme from St Alban’s Episcopal Church. Brookside Funeral Home and Cemetery is located at 13747 Eastex Freeway (59 N), Houston, Tx 77039. Pall Bearers will be Larry Singer, Dale Moon, Robert Fowler, Quint Guidy, Logan Guidy and Tristan Guidy. Dress code is casual, jeans if you have them.
