John Oliver Bell (J.O.), age 37, passed away on Thursday, December 30th, 2021. J.O. was born on May 17th, 1984 in Houston, Texas to Kathleen Windley Pierson Bell and John James Bell. He is greeted in Heaven by his mother, Windley, and is survived by his father, John, his brother, Hayden James Bell and Hayden’s wife, Stacy Bell. J.O. is also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kathleen and Oliver Pierson and his paternal grandparents Anne Boring and Lewis B. Bell.
J.O. grew up in Houston, where he attended Briargrove Elementary and attended Second Baptist School. He pursued his higher education at Texas Christian University. While growing up, he spent many summers at Camp Olympia with his brother and dear friends. He also served as an acolyte at his church.
J.O. was thoughtful, introspective, and lived his life actively pursuing his own peace. His ability to love and care for those dear to him was shown best through his close and loyal friendship with his mother, and his compassionate heart shone brightly through his commitment to his two rescue pups, Hans and Aria whom he adored. He was vigilant in maintaining his health through a commitment to physical fitness and passion for cooking creative balanced meals. He also created wonderful gourmet meals alongside his mother with whom he shared his love of cooking.
J.O.'s extended surviving family includes his uncles, Michael K. Bell and William Grant Pierson, his aunts, Elizabeth Bell Toy and Katheryn Pavelka, and his cousins, Jessica, Henry, and Kate Toy, Courtney Richard, Blake and Zach Pierson, Jason and Melissa Bell, Krystin Gillogly, and Kacee Verplank. The great size of his family emphasizes his absence through the number of relationships forever changed. Each member of his family will carry him in their hearts forever, and their collective love and memories will keep him alive throughout the many years he was meant to live alongside them.
John Oliver will be interred at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church January 29, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. in a brief ceremony at the outdoor columbarium in front of the church.
