John William Baines Jr., 77 passed away on October 27, 2023 surrounded by his wife Lynn Baines and son David. He was born in Houston, TX in 1949 to Clarice and John W. Baines Sr., who loved to take him and his sister Sue boating on the San Jacinto River. One of his favorite memories was learning how to slalom water ski with his family. John studied Political Science at Houston University and carried that passion for politics throughout his adult life. He also spent many of his adult years attending and organizing music concerts, as well as surfing up and down the California coast.
John met the love of his life, Lynn Baines in San Leandro, CA at a party. The two continued to share their love of parties with family and friends throughout their entire marriage. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1989. John and Lynn have two children that he loved deeply, Carolyn and David.
Everyone who knew John knew how much he loved live music, boating, and discussing politics. The Baines household was always full of music pouring out of all the speakers around the house. John loved all types of music and you never knew what song you would hear next. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “watch this music performance” one more time. He was also so proud of all the photos of his family and friends that he had taken over the years. There was a constant slide show of pictures running that was sure to bring back fun memories.
John will always be remembered for the way he welcomed everyone into his home and the way that he loved to have a house full of fun. We couldn’t have asked for a better parent, husband, sibling or friend, and will miss John every day. John’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
John was preceded in death by John W. Baines Sr and Clarice Baines and is survived by Sue Farnsworth, Lynn Baines, Carolyn Baines, David Baines and Branden Meadows.
He will be laid to rest on November 9th at Lawndale funeral home located at 6900 Lawndale St Houston, TX at 2pm. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date, more details to follow.
Rock on Johnny!
