Johanna Josephine “Jill” Burton, née O'Mahony, aged 87, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2021. Born August 6, 1933 in Waterford, Ireland, she emigrated in 1956 with her family first to Canada, then to Washington, DC. Working there as a secretary, she met and married the love of her life, Tom Burton in 1966 and moved to Houston. Beautiful inside and out, she was also a fashion model, an award-winning ballroom dancer and a talented watercolor artist. Jill leaves a legacy of love, compassion, humor, bravery and optimism. Her infectious smile, her radiant personality and her positive outlook made her the life of every party. Jill was a constant and generous source of love and support for her family and friends, as well as strangers in need. She will be missed dearly by so many whose lives she touched. Jill is predeceased by her husband Thomas H. Burton, Jr. and is survived by her twin children, Thomas H. Burton, III of Houston and Aileen Truax; son-in-law, Eric Truax of Austin; daughter-in-law Martha Ruiz Thompson; grandchildren Miles Burton, Erin Burton and Elyse Thompson; brother and sister in-law James and Joan O'Mahony of Fallbrook, California; and sister and brother in-law Catherine and John Spillane of Passage West, Ireland. The family extend their sincerest gratitude to Jill's carers, Eno, Josephine and Favour, who gave her great comfort during her last months. A Funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, May 1st at 10am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr, Houston, TX 77081. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Casa Juan Diego or Open Door Mission.
