He was born on July 11, 1942 in Manila, Philippines to Jose Jusgaya Sanchez and Adelaida Baldevia Singh Gil Sanchez. He had eight siblings: Lourdes, Lilian, Lolita, George, Teresita, Manuel, Luzviminda, and Ferdinand. He attended the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, and then immigrated to the United States in 1978. He was later joined by his wife and love of his life, Remy, in Houston, Texas in 1980.
As an immigrant, Joe worked hard to support his family, starting as a bank teller and bartender, and then working his way up to hotel and hospital management. In his later years, Joe especially loved spending time with his grandchildren: Lucille, Juliana, and Sam. He was also looking forward to meeting his newest grandson, Zachary.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world--the highlights of which include Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Italy, Germany, Ireland, England, France, and Portugal. They also went on several pilgrimages together, including a special visit to the Holy Land. He was always quick to make a new friend with his kind face or tell a joke or two to lighten the mood. Joe both loved to laugh and also make other people laugh. His jovial presence will be dearly missed by everyone.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday, February 12th at 10:00am at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, Texas.
