Heaven called home an angel like no other on the morning of October 12, 2023. Joe Paul Wright, 87, of Pearland, Texas passed away peacefully. He was the glue, the light, and the lifelong dance partner to his loving wife of 67 years, Ginia Wray Wright. Joe Paul was born to Katherine and Paul Wilson Wright on November 15, 1935. He was the oldest of five children.
Joe Paul was a long time Houston resident. He attended Hamilton Junior High where he met the love of his life, Ginia Wray. He then went on to Reagan High School where he was voted most popular, he was a star basketball player, and the class President. He graduated from Reagan High School in 1954. Joe Paul was truly a Reagan bulldog through and through. His friends that he made at Reagan remained his best friends till his last day.
Joe Paul had an incredible work ethic. During his high school days, he worked at Heaton Men’s Clothing store which later became known as Harold’s. He also worked all over the lower United States with his father in the pipeline business.
Joe Paul attended San Jacinto Junior College where he studied electrical engineering. After graduating junior college, he worked at Brown and Root Construction Company. In 1959, his career in insurance began when he started working for Commercial Union Insurance Company. A few years later, he founded Wright & Company Insurance Agency located on North Main Street. Later he relocated his agency next to the famed Triple A Restaurant at the Farmers Market. His agency remained at this location for 30 plus years.
Joe Paul and Ginia Wray were married on September 8, 1956. They had three sons, Curtis, and twins Todd and Thom, who were the light of their lives. Joe Paul loved his family. They spent summers camping with family and friends at Inks Lake State Park and winters snow skiing in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. Everyone who knew Joe Paul knew that he loved to hunt, fish and golf. If he wasn’t with his family, you could find him with his best friends. Participating in the annual fishing tournament in Hackberry, Louisiana, dove hunting in South Texas, and his annual Scholarship Reagan Golf Tournament that he founded were his passions.
Joe Paul and Ginia Wray retired and moved to Sea Isle, Texas on the west end of Galveston Island. He enjoyed many late nights fishing on their pier and early morning walks beach combing for the most beautiful sand dollars and seashells. Joe Paul and Ginia Wray’s children, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends enjoyed spending time at their Galveston home.
Joe Paul, your infectious laughter and thoughtfulness will be missed deeply. You were so loved.
