He was born in Flatonia, Texas on September 21, 1929 to Bohumir Machac and Gertrude (Kremel) Machac. Joe lived in Flatonia for 7 years and then moved to McCook, Texas. His family then moved to Houston at the age of 13.
Joe met his wife, Tina in 1947 and they married in 1949. They celebrated many milestones including raising 4 daughters, births of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They loved to do many things together, including gardening, watching Wheel of Fortune and watching Mollie B Polka Party. Joe and Tina had a strong catholic faith and were founding members of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
Joe retired in 1981 after working for 37 years with the American Can Company. He then went on to work with Southline Metal for 12 years.
In 1977, Joe and Tina bought a lot on Lake Livingston and built the lake house in 1978.
In 1992, they made Lake Livingston their permanent residence and Joe would often say it was the best 32 years of his life living on the lake. Joe and Tina were active members of St. Joesph’s Catholic Church in Livingston and were Eucharistic Ministers for many years.
Joe enjoyed working with the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department annual barbecue fundraiser and participated for over 25 years.
To Joe, yard work and gardening were not a chore, they were a hobby and one of his favorite past times. He was very proud of his garden and freshly mowed yard.
Joe loved to have family and friends over to have a good time and bar-b-que, especially with a cold beer.
He attended every family occasion he could because he wanted to be there with the ones he loved.
He was a loving brother to sisters Agnes Keller, Emma Montgomery, Bernice Petru, Judy Lanik and to brother James Machac.
Joe was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife of 71 years, Faustine (Keller) Machac, and was a great father to his four daughters Joyce Kappe (Mike), Gladys Kelso (Les), Annette Lawrence (Jay) and Laurie Lenzen (Bob). His pride and joy were his 9 grandchildren: Kristie Lane (Chris), Tracey Horelica (J.P.), Ashley Malcolm (Landon), Hollie Hall (Talor), Kevin Lawrence (Cortnie), Megan Burks (Zack), Trevor Lenzen, Colin Lenzen, and Brenton Lenzen and 14 great grandchildren: Logan, Austin, Josie, Joey, Blake Nicky, Tyler, Sammie, Kensley, Zane, Ellis, Ben, Graham and Delta.
He will be dearly missed by a large extended family and many great friends.
Graveside services will be held at Forest Park Westheimer with a celebration of life at a later date.
