Joe was born on February 29, 1936, in Mission, Texas, to loving parents Bennie H. Dobson and Gladys May Dobson. He grew up with two sisters, Judy Staton and Martha Ann Harris. Surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit family, Joe’s childhood was marked by a love for adventure. He was often found exploring the great outdoors, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.
Joe was known for his quick wit and mischievous nature. He was always ready with a joke or a smile, and his positive outlook on life was infectious. He met the love of his life, Martha Jane Dobson, as a young man of 21 year old living in the same community. They married on October 3, 1957. Together, they raised three beautiful children: Tammy Wilson, Sandy Dobson, and Joe Dobson Jr.
Joe worked tirelessly to provide for and be the rock for his family, holding various jobs throughout his life. Each one was a testament to his dedication and hard work. He capitalized on his gift of gab to propel himself into a successful sales career. His true passion, however, was the great outdoors. Joe loved to hunt and fish, often spending weekends with his family on hunting adventures or fishing trips. His stories from these trips, filled with humor and joy, became legendary among family and friends.
Joe was always ready to lend a hand or share a kind word. He believed in the power of community and spent his life doing God’s work, spreading kindness and joy wherever he went. His faith guided him, and he lived by the principles of love and compassion. Joe’s legacy of love and dedication to his family will be remembered and honored by all who knew him.
Joe was a proud, patriotic Texan and a devoted Republican, always ready to stand up for his beliefs. He exhibited honor and unwavering support for his country, embodying the true spirit of American pride.
Joe is survived by his sisters Judy Staton and Martha Ann Harris, daughter Sandy Dobson, grandson BJ Wilson (his wife Ne’Lee), grandson Nick Wilson, great-grandchildren Ryker Wilson and Cadence Wilson, and son-in-law JW Wilson. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe’s family was his greatest pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Gladys Dobson, wife Martha Dobson, son Joe Dobson Jr., daughter Tammy Wilson, and granddaughter Nicole Wilson.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A celebration of life will follow the service starting at 12:00 PM at 615 Fairbanks Dr., Magnolia, TX 77354, where family and friends can share their favorite memories of Joe and enjoy great food and entertainment.
