A native Texan, JoAnn was born on July 11, 1935, in Danbury, Texas. She was the 2nd child of Elsie Irene and Ernie Washington Haynes. She graduated from Honey Island High School and worked at Tennessee Gas as a switchboard operator.
She married Don Bailey on May 26, 1962, and they were married for 59 years. They raised their family in Knollwood Village before settling in Missouri City until they moved to Cedar Park, Texas. She was a member of South Main Baptist Church.
JoAnn had two cherished long-term friendships in her lifetime. The first was with Charlene Broussard which lasted until JoAnn’s passing – a time span of over 70 years. They spent many hours over the years visiting in the afternoons and talking on the phone in the later years. The second was with her sister-in-law, Genevieve Bailey. After her passing, JoAnn would comment often how much she missed her.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa (Tess) and Don Fancher of Alpharetta, Georgia and her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Debbie Bailey of Cedar Park, Texas. She had 6 grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Andrew Fancher (Brittany), William Fancher, Tate Fancher, Trenton Bailey, Travis Bailey, and Taylor Bailey. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. JoAnn was proceeded in death, by her husband, Donal (Don) Scott Bailey, her parents, Elsie and Ernie Haynes and her siblings David Haynes and Paula Oberg.
A graveside Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery at 10:00 am with a reception to follow.
