Joan Louise Wasko (née Novak), a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on July 14, 2019 at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 6, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1955, she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Wasko, on a double date (though not with each other!) at a dance at the University of Notre Dame, and they married in 1958 after Bob graduated with an Aeronautical Engineering degree. By the late 1960's, they had adopted two children. After her husband left NASA's Glenn Research Center in 1969, they moved from Cleveland and ended up living in many different cities across the US and abroad. Joan had a great talent for turning every house they bought into a warm, loving home. Upon her husband's retirement in 1998, Joan and Bob let their hair down and became high rollers at the Venetian and Harrah's in Las Vegas and the Coushatta Casino Resort in Louisiana.
After Bob's passing in 2008, Joan spent most of her time with her daughter and two grandsons. She was an amazing grandma who loved her grandsons dearly. In her last years, she spent her time reading mystery novels, cooking for her family, and watching football. Her favorite teams were the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Houston Texans. She was preceded in death by husband Robert and her son Daniel Wasko. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Wasko Jones, and her grandsons, James Blunt and Jackson Blunt, as well as many nieces and nephews.
While flowers are always appreciated, please also consider donating to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the children's charity of your choice.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday August 1, 2019 at 10 am at Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek.
