Joan was a 1952 honor graduate of David B. Oliver High School in Pittsburgh, PA. She was employed as a secretary for Gulf Oil Corporation in Pittsburgh. Joan immediately caught the attention of a young co-worker named Jim Mount. They dated, fell in love, married in September, 1956, and welcomed their first child, Linda, in February, 1958. While expecting their second child in 1961, Gulf Oil relocated Jim and his family to Houston, TX. Their son James (Jimmy) was born in May of that year.
The family became members of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church where the children would later attend and graduate from the church’s day school. Joan was a dedicated, full time wife and mother. She enjoyed playing the piano, especially during holiday gatherings. Sewing was a practical past time, especially since Joan delighted in being able to make her own clothes. Gardening and taking care of her roses was a relaxing hobby as well. She volunteered at the children’s school when needed. In addition, Joan gave a few years of her time doing volunteer work with St. Theresa’s Social Services office as well as assist in the parish’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) ministry. Serving the church in these areas was very gratifying for her. Joan was a woman of great faith. She believed in the power of prayer and always holding on to hope. Joan had a sweet spirit as well as a kind and generous heart. Her greatest asset was the love and concern she had for her family and friends. She was easy to get to know and talk with. Joan loved opportunities to dine out with family or friends. She was fond of her neighbors and very much appreciated their helpfulness during her elder years. Joan was a wonderful grandmother and cherished the fact that she lived long enough to meet her great grandchildren. She would often sit on her front porch watching the younger generation ride their bikes and play in the cul-de-sac. Joan loved children and easily built bonds with them. She will be dearly missed. An angel in Heaven now, may God eternally bless her soul.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Miller; twin brother, William “Bill” Miller; and beloved husband of 55 years, James J. Mount; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her daughter, Linda A. Bonnett (husband David); son, James “Jimmy” Mount; granddaughters, Victoria Lynn Bonnett (fiancé Rico Alvarado), and Anna “Annie” Celeste Bonnett; great grandchildren, Ava, Ana, and Gianni; and bonus grandchildren, Jayden and Carmen.
