Joan Marie Milsaps, born December 29, 1931, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of 93. A beloved matriarch, she was one of 10 children born to Jack and Edrie Mae Walston and carried her family’s legacy with grace, love, and unwavering faith.
She married Ernest John Milsaps on June 5,1948 at the age of 16. And together they were blessed with 8 children. Later in life she met her dear friend Lester Baker and they had 23 years of companionship together.
In her final days, Joan shared with her family that she had “fought the good fight” and was ready to rest in the arms of her Lord. She told her children to live by the word of God on this side and she is going to the word of God in eternity. With her heart full of gratitude, she expressed her eternal love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion.
One of her favorite scriptures was, “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD” (Psalm 150:6), and she truly embodied this verse, living a life of constant praise and thankfulness to God. Joan’s radiant light reflected God’s love onto everyone she met, and her faith was an anchor for her family and all who knew her. Her life and example spoke for itself.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ernest John Milsaps; her son, Earl J. Milsaps; her grandson, Jared Lee Brown; her daughter-in-law, Crystal Milsaps; her sons-in-law, Sonny Leisner and David Huffines; her sisters, Billy Sue, Martha Ann, Mary Louise, and Jackie; and her brothers, Sonny, Albert, Larry, and Jerry, Joan now rests in eternal peace, reunited with those she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her loving children: Vicki and Melton Brown, Mona and Ken Morris, Cay Leisner, Lorna and David Trimm, Jana Huffines, Eric and Kimberly Milsaps, and Eli Milsaps: 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy and her sister Edrie Lee Snell. Her unwavering love for her family and faith in God continues to strengthen them in her absence.
While our hearts are heavy with the loss of the most beautiful soul we have ever known, we are comforted knowing that Joan is now at peace in the presence of her Savior. We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support extended to us during this time as we celebrate the life of our extraordinary mother and grandmother.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” (Proverbs 31:28)
