She was born on January 30, 1934 to Dr. Phillip Harold and Mary Elizabeth Henderson in the small picturesque town of Longview, Washington. While attending the University of Washington in Seattle, Joan met and fell in love with the handsome frat boy and crew jock, Richard Corwin Lacy. They married in 1955 and began their lives together, moving with Shell Oil Company from the West Coast to the East Coast and finally Houston, Texas. Together they raised three children, Pamela, Melinda and Christopher.
Joan loved the beautiful coasts of Washington, Oregon and Connecticut, and enjoyed combing the beaches for sea shells, which she loved to collect and display. Sanibel Island, Florida was also a favorite annual family vacation spot and a great place to find even more shells to add to her collection. She also enjoyed being part of the Wilchester Garden Club, Wilchester Home Owner’s Association, and loved gardening, traveling with her husband, Dick and devoting time to her church, Holy Spirit Episcopal. Joan was an active member of the Altar Guild for many years and truly loved her job as the wedding coordinator with its opportunity to work with the brides and their families. Joan loved fashion and often modeled for various events.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Phillip and Evelyn Henderson and her loving husband Dick Lacy, who left us all way too soon at the age of 53.
Joan is survived by her big brother Dr. Phillip Henderson Jr, 94, of Longview, Washington and three children, daughter Pamela Lacy West (Houston), daughter Melinda Lacy McAlister and husband James (Houston), and son Christopher Corwin Lacy, wife Natalia (Sholtska, Ukraine).
