She was born on December 7, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Charles Robert and Ida Mae DeFore. Joan was the youngest of five children.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Mitchell Garvey of Houston, Texas, and her sisters, Marjorie Myers of Palestine, Texas, Ann Miles of Cypress, Texas, Barbara Duncan of Neches, Texas, and brother, Robert DeFore of Waco, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan loved her Spring Branch home and her roses and plants showed that. She shared her home with her two dogs, Wolfie and Sassy, as well as her cats, Gretchen and Archie.
A Memorial Celebration will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
