Joan was born on the 2nd of February 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in Houston, she attended Lamar High School and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. In college she earned her wings in aviation, flying to various locations around the country. She was also a member of several clubs, including riflery and theater.
Upon her return to Houston, she met her future husband, Earl M. Bogar. Their first summer together was spent sailing, which led to a lifelong love of the water. They went on to spend many summers and holidays with their children and grandchildren at their family home on Galveston Bay. Joan’s greatest joy was having her whole family together.
Joan was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church & Sociable Seniors. She was also a member of the Houston Yacht Club, forming many life-long friendships.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Earl; and her parents, Marian and Wilbur Peck. She is survived by her five children, Matt Bogar and wife Julie, Debbie Sacra and husband Jerry, Marian Seger and husband John, Mark Bogar, Eric Bogar and wife Eileen; her 17 grandchildren, Matthew Bogar and wife Amanda, Laura, and Katie Bogar; Lauren Sacra Harvey and husband Chris, Caroline Sacra Christian and husband Jeep, Richard and Michael Sacra; Catherine, John, Stephen, Caroline and Sarah Seger; Abigail, John Mark, Anneliese and Molly Bogar; and E.J. Bogar; and 2 great grandchildren, Annabelle Bogar and Hank Harvey.
Joan may have passed from this world, but her love, legacy and spirit will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. “We love you Mom and Nana.”
The family wishes to thank Dr. Dan Gombos and Dr. Sapna Patel of MD Anderson for their care and support they gave to their mother.
