Jo Ann Williams was born on July 23, 1946 to Mr. John David Cross and Mrs. Reberda Jackson Cross. She was born and reared on the Northeast side of Houston, Texas in the Settegast Community. Jo Ann attended Settegast Elementary and B.C. Elmore High School. In her years there she was active in Cheer & the Glee-Club.
Jo Ann accepted Christ at an early age and grew up worshiping at Little Union MBC in Houston. She later joined Powerhouse Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Supt. Robert J. Anderson and continued their affiliation with the Church under the present leadership of Bishop Johnny A. Tates.
On August 28, 1962 she married Rev. Robert L. Williams. They were married for many years before the Lord called him home. She was blessed with ten children: five boys and five girls.
Jo Ann known as Nanny to family and friends opened her home to any that needed a place a to eat and sleep. Nanny helped raise a countless number of children in her family. Nanny was a wonderful cook and her food will truly be missed by the family. The one thing that Nanny loved to do was Sing, Karaoke and Play Dominoes with her family and friends. At every family gathering there would be a table set up for the elders to have a friendly game of Spades.
In the late evening of July 19, 2020 Jo Ann was granted her angle wings. Although she fought a good fight in her final days she was surrounded by her family and friends. She gave us courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her children Alice, Katrina Williams, and her parents, John David and Reberda Jackson Cross as well as a loving step-mother, Ruth Cross, three brothers, John David, Jimmy Ray, Robert Lee and one sister Archie Mae Conley.
Jo Ann leaves to cherish her memory, eight children, Robert Williams Jr. (Elnora), Samantha R. Powell (Marcellous), Barron W. Williams, Darron D. Williams, Temeaka M. Davis (Brian), James M. Price (Gwen), Darine Conerly (Henry) and Willo Conerly (Belinda); twenty nine grandchildren, Carlita, Vanora, Brandon, Shonta, Brittney, Ashley, Ervon, Edaja, Jurney, Briauna, Barron Jr., Anthony, Darianne, Darius, Darron Jr., Anthony, Kenneth, Dominique, Brian Jr., Dalecia, Mason, Joshua, Lacci, Cailah, Cianyah, Kimora, William, Wyatt, Wy’Niya and Wynasia.
