Jo was born January 9, 1927 in Taylor, Texas to Roy Hamilton Poe and Josephine (Yarbrough) Poe. One of three children, Jo’s siblings were older brother, Roy Poe Jr. and younger sister, Etha Margaret Poe.
Jo’s life was heavily influenced by her grandparents who help to raise her; Charles Edward Poe, a Baptist minister, and Ida (Wood) Poe. Their teachings on living as a Christian, always showing kindness, giving of her time and sharing her faith were her guidelines on how to live life.
Jo married the love of her life, Randy, April 15, 1950. They would have been married 72 years this April. Together they raised five children: Richard Morris Wells (Leslie), Patti Jo Wells Timblin (Randy), James Randolph Wells (Donna Jackson) Larry Wayne Wells (Cynthia Hoverson), Mark Hamilton Wells - deceased. Jo was the proud grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of fourteen.
Jo and Randy resided in the Oak Meadows neighborhood of Houston, Texas since 1951 and attended Forest Oak Baptist Church that was also established that same year. Jo was involved in so many of her children’s extracurricular activities; cheer, scouts, baseball and many others. Her passion was what fed her spiritual and Christian life, involved in many church activities and mission projects. One of her many mission projects focused on coordinating the sewing teams and making dresses to send throughout the world: Africa, South Pacific and Asia included. Those dresses became a years long commitment as part of her mission to help others. There was not a room in her home that did not have a bible, devotional or wall art to remind you that God is always with you.
Jo will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
